with their all-star band:
Larry Goldings, keys
Christian McBride, bass

Rodney Jones, guitar
Since making their considerable—and instantly recognizable— contributions to James Brown’s trademark sound, the horn players Pee Wee Ellis (tenor saxophone), Fred Wesley (trombone) and Maceo Parker (alto saxophone) have all forged significant solo careers leading their own bands and collaborating with a variety of other artists. These recording and touring undertakings keep them busy, even after 50 years of making music. Performing together for the first time in nearly 20 years, they will co-headline a concert on October 6 at NYC’s Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street), in celebration of Pee Wee’s 70th birthday year.
The rhythm section that backed them when they recorded and performed together in the 1990s will join them here: the keyboardist Larry Goldings, the drummer Bill Stewart and the guitarist Rodney Jones, with the addition of bassist Christian McBride. A special guest will be announced soon.
Tickets are $40, $60 and $75 and can be purchased now by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or calling 800.745.3000. The Town Hall box office will begin selling tickets on Thursday, Sept. 15.
Embracing their collective backgrounds in jazz, funk and soul, the program will reprise their collaboration in the 1990s, celebrate their influences and showcase their current musical personalities.
