A Hudson Valley Debut! Wildly original **Sally Baby’s Silver Dollars** have emerged as one of New Orleans most exciting new bands seamlessly blending the sounds of early Creole Jazz Bands with New Orleans R&B dance hall, Second Line music, Calypso, and their ethereal, mystical, magical original music.
***”There are many familiar Louisiana sounds in the band’s music. “Down in New Orleans” feels like Fat Tuesday on Bourbon Street, but they don’t just lean on tradition. Sally Baby’s Silver Dollars is inherently funky and timeless, which is why the band has quickly gone from busking and playing tiny dives to doing its thing behind the Tiny Desk. – NPR Music***
In 2024 they were 2nd runners up in NPR’s Tiny Desk competition and now their unique sound has caught the attention of major festivals like New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, California’s High Sierra Music Festival and Upstate NY’s Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival.
Founded by singer-guitarist, composer, music historian, and New Orleans jazz tour guide Salvatore Geloso (Sally Baby), the ensemble recently released their debut self-titled EP to glowing reviews. Sal’s songs are at the center of Sally Baby’s Silver Dollars’ music with his original compositions taking center stage. All of the ensemble’s musicians have serious chops – including Sal who studied not only New Orleans’ music, but opera and choral works like Mozart’s *Requiem*.
When you listen to the band, Sal’s compositions shine, but he brings so much more than just songs to the live experience. With his background in theater and years guiding jazz music tours through the French Quarter, Sally Baby’s mission is to immerse every listener into New Orleans rich music and cultural history.
