Home of Congo Square, birthplace of a great brass band tradition, Treme has been a source of African-American music and culture for as long as Crescent City cooks have been serving red beans and rice on Monday nights. Join us for a vivid musical portrait of a city that has shaped music throughout America and the world for more than a century. Topping the bill is New Orleans legend Preservation Hall Jazz Band, along with a cast of the city’s all-star musicians: drummer Stanton Moore of the band Galactic, guitarist Leo Nocentelli & singer-songwriter-instrumentalist Ivan Neville,

Bob James & David Sanborn featuring Steve Gadd
David Sanborn, the six-time Grammy Award winner who has collaborated with Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, and Bruce Springsteen, and Bob James, the two-time Grammy Award winner and founder of the group Fourplay, will appear on Thursday, June 6 at The Town Hall in NYC.Sanborn and James’ 1986 recording, “Double Vision,” spent 63 weeks on the Billboard charts -- but they never toured. Reuniting 27 years later for a new recording, "Quartette Humaine," on the newly re-launched OKeh Records label, the pair will tour for the first time and this will be their NYC concert debut.Saxophonist David Sanborn has released 24 albums, won six Grammy awards, and collected eight Gold and one Platinum album, in a career dating back to an appearance at Woodstock. An inspiration to musicians who have followed in his footsteps, Sanborn has worked in many genres that blend instrumental pop, R&B and lately, more traditional jazz. Pianist Bob James is best known for his instrumental theme for the sitcom “Taxi,” for which he composed all the original music used in that series for its entire run. James was discovered by Quincy Jones in 1963, the year he recorded his first solo album. He has produced more than 58 albums, receiving innumerable awards, and 15 Grammy nominations. Their new band is a quartet and features the legendary Steve Gadd on drums and Saturday Night Live's James Genus, on bass.http://www.examiner.com/article/q-a-with-bob-james-on-quartette-humaine-50-years-music-part-1-of-2http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324412604578515312402974482.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
