These recording and touring undertakings keep them busy, even after 50 years of making music. Performing together for the first time in nearly 20 years, they will co-headline a concert on October 6 at NYC’s Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street), in celebration of Pee Wee’s 70th birthday year.The rhythm section that backed them when they recorded and performed together in the 1990s will join them here: the keyboardist Larry Goldings, the drummer Bill Stewart and the guitarist Rodney Jones, with the addition of bassist Christian McBride. Critics revere it as a stylistic milestone and it is still the bestselling jazz album of all time, certified quadruple platinum in 2008. "Kind of Blue" is so wide-reaching in its scope that musicians in both the rock and classical genres have cited it as an influence and have recorded hundreds of versions of the music on the album.In more than a half century since the album's release, many things have happened-not the least of which is the passing of Miles Davis and most of the original musicians who contributed to that recording.
