The Playboy Jazz Festival celebrates it’s 34th year with two huge evenings of music at the famed Hollywood Bowl - Saturday June 16 & Sunday, June 17. Our 2011 San Francisco "A Night in Treme" concert sold out Davies Hall so SF Jazz asked us to present "Another Night in Treme" during their 2012 spring season.On Friday, June 15, SF Jazz presents "Another Night in Treme" at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA featuring Dr. John & the Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary plus The Soul Rebels with special guests Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Leo Nocentelli on guitar (on his birthday!) and Ivan Neville on keys and vocals.Gonna' be another amazing celebration of all that New Orleans gives to the world.SF GATE: 'Another Night in Treme'Friday @ Paramount Theatre: Can't make it to New Orleans? Don't sweat it, just get to Oakland. "Another Night in Treme" brings together some of the Crescent City's most celebrated musicians, including Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John (above), whose latest batch of voodoo funk, Creole jazz and swamp blues was recorded with the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach on the critically acclaimed album "Locked Down." The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts is 10 years old! So help us commemorate 10 years of transforming our community through the arts in an exciting evening complete with dinner, dancing, and first-class entertainment: A Night in Tremé (The Musical Majesty of New Orleans) featuring Preservation Hall Jazz Band with special guests Cyril Neville, Donald Harrison, Jr. and James "12" Andrews.This fun-filled evening is the major channel through which the Center raises funds for educational programming. Last year over $160,000 was raised to support our arts education initiatives.

International Jazz Day
We are proud to be part of the production team for the New Orleans segment of the first International Jazz Day. The event is being led by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Herbie Hancock, and produced by The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and UNESCO.The New Orleans event, which is free, starts at 6:30am local time and features Herbie Hancock, Stephanie Jordan, Ellis Marsalis, Treme Brass Band, Terence Blanchard, Kermit Ruffins, Dr. Michael White, Bill Summers, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Roland Guerin and the Luther Gray Congo Square Preservation Society.The event will be broadcast live on wwoz.org, online at jazzday.com and will be covered by national and international TV networks.What: In November 2011, during the UNESCO General Conference, the international community proclaimed 30 April as "International Jazz Day". The Day is intended to raise awareness in the international community of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. Many governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and private citizens currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music will embrace the opportunity to foster greater appreciation not only for the music but also for the contribution it can make to building more inclusive societies.

The Shape of Jazz - Gretchen Parlato, Lionel Loueke
Two of today's most innovative voices in jazz present a debut project as they continue their journey of sharing the stage. When Gretchen Parlato and Lionel Loueke invited singer/songwriter Becca Stevens to join them in celebrating the art of rhythm and song, it was a natural fit. They had known each other for years with Gretchen and Lionel performing and recording on each other's projects and Gretchen and Becca collaborating in various live settings.Their Zankel Hall concert will mark the debut of the trio.The three friends, each known for exploring jazz from a unique, self styled approach, got together to write and arrange music that simply asked "what if ?" The result is a mixture of duos and trio in an open field of strings, percussion and voice that further defines how jazz is expanding and interpreted.They are a motley crew: Loueke's signature plucked guitar reveals his Benin,"West Africa roots." Steven's acclaimed ukele, guitar and charango playing references her North Carolina upbringing and the California bred Parlato whose voice is both instrument and lyric augments the rhythm with hand percussion. Thanks to lessons from Becca, Gretchen will also make her string debut.
